Newhaven Fort
The cliff-top fort was built in the 1860s to defend the harbour. Its dry moat, underground passages and coastal position reveal its military purpose.
St Michael’s Church
The church retains a Norman tower, chancel and rounded apse, linking modern Newhaven with the earlier settlement of Meeching.
Tide Mills, towards Seaford
Outside Newhaven, between the town and Seaford, foundations and waterways recall the settlement that developed around tide-powered flour mills from 1761.
